Aprilia Special Edition, 200 made worldwide, one of only 12 imported to the UK.
Very exclusive limited edition of the RSV 1000 R, with a huge number of exclusive components, faithfully “adding lightness” to the already fast superbike.
State of the art in 2004, this bike spared very little expense to be the best available – buyers bought the bike with matching leathers and helmet (not included) and Aprilia corporate hospitality at the GP of their choice. The original £24000 purchase price did, however, buy the very best that Aprilia could put together.
Weight savings were uppermost , and built in from the swingarm, made in an aluminium-silicon alloy, and weighing in at only 9.6kg, to the wheels, which are forged magnesium, and nearly 2kg lighter than the stock parts. Bolts, fasteners and levers were also picked from the special parts bins, or custom made to save weight, all of which can be thrown away with the addition of a bacon sandwich before riding.
The engine was not spared attention, with the use of magnesium for the head and clutch covers, and titanium for all engine bolts. Engine output peaks at 10000 rpm and 141 BHP, and the torque is as healthy as you might imagine a Rotax V-Twin to be.
The bike comes with the Akropovīc Titanium system, and the engine is mapped to Race mode to accommodate this. Included in the sale is the Aprilia Racing OEM system (which does not bear “not for Road use” markings), and the engine can be switched to the Road Map easily enough.
The crowning glory, though, has to be the Carbon Fibre bodywork. The CF fuel tank was the first to be homologated for road use, and the tight weave on all panels reflects the care and attention paid to the whole bike.
The bike has had two owners from the factory, currently has 11274 miles and a full Aprilia service history. Currently sporting Metzeler RaceTec K3 tyres, which are about 1000 miles old.
