In stock now is this important piece of Porsche history, one of just three Porsche 964 RS N/GTs used by Porsche as development cars.
This prototype 964 N/GT was hand-built in Weissach, Germany on the 6th June 1990 with a chassis number from a series unique (sondeserie) to the KundenSport division under the direction of the customer sports (KundenSport) department leader (until 2006) and 1977 Le Mans 24 hrs winner Jürgen Barth. This is confirmed in an e-mail from Jürgen Barth.
The build sheet confirms that the car was built by Porsche as a N/GT prototype. This is identified by a rare Z option 12281 ‘special series 964 Carrera 2 NGT build description prototype’. N/GT was a homologation group for near-standard Grand Touring vehicles - better understood as the competition variant of the 964. Only 290 N/GT vehicles were sold in 1992 – all LHD and all for the German market.
After it had completed its role in the pre-production programme as the N/GT prototype it was converted by Porsche to RS Basic (lightweight) specification and served as the RS Basic (lightweight) prototype. This is substantiated in the Fahrzeugbrief dated 1994.
The car was returned back to N/GT specification earlier this year.
Information that we obtained recently revealed that there may be only 2 other 964 prototypes in public ownership – these are indeed the rarest of the rare.
